NEW PUPPY? Please Read........
Back To Home Page
If you have a new puppy please dont take it for long walks straight away. As a dog walker I often come across people walking tiny puppies for miles. Please be aware that pups joints are soft and not fully developed and excess excercise at an early age will cause you and the dog heartache later.

The general rule is:-

Please dont let puppy climb stairs or jump in and out of your car. Pups joints are not fully developed until they are almost a year old. Puppies need LOTS of sleep....this is when the growth hormone kicks in. Take it steady with your puppy in the first year and he/she will have a better chance of a long and healthy life. Hip and elbow problems caused by over excercise cannot be repaired and your dog could be on expensive medication all its life. Gently does it......please!
5 minutes excercise per month of its life: so...a twelve week old puppy needs 15 mins excercise per day......and it will probably get that running round the house and garden.....no need to do miles of lead walking!

Other information
There are thousands of unwanted dogs in rescue in the UK. If you dont intend to breed from your dog or show him/her then please have them neutered or spayed. It reduces the chances of your dog developing cancers and other hormone related illnesses and helps to prevent the possibility of more unwanted puppies ending up in a rescue shelter. Neutered males tend to wander off less too.
